“Union Road” Agate

St. Louis, St. Louis County, Missouri, USA

6.3 x 5.7 x 3.8 cm

This is a beautiful agate example from a classic midwestern location. These agates were collected from Union Road during the construction of I-270 & I-55 intersection highway south of St. Louis, Missouri, which now is overlaid by subdivisions and shopping districts.  The vast majority of these agates were collected in the 1960’s . This particular piece I acquired from an older mineral dealer Sherwin Berger while digging through boxes in his storage unit a few years back. From what I’ve researched only a very small percentage of “Union Road” nodules actually contained agate, and quality agates are even rarer. Common colors tend to be more of the white, black, and tan, and the more rarer colors are orange, red, purple, and pink. This is a great piece worthy of anyone’s collection! Be sure to watch the video.
